Iron Man 2: My Personal Take

3 05 2010

I just had a chance to watch Iron Man 2. Too bad there’s no IMAX theatre in my area but normal theatre will do.

Personally I am satisfied with Iron Man 2. Iron Man 1 was fresh and Iron Man 2 didn’t waste time to retell the story and it continued after the first movie. Without any spoiler, fans of Iron Man will like it. As for casual action fans, they might be skeptical at some point of the movie but I’m sure they will like the film as well.

Robert Downey, Jr. seemed very easy going as Tony Stark. He played the role with such suaveness and slick that made Tony Stark stands out among other graphic novel adaptation. I’m glad that Gwyneth Paltrow and Jon Favreau’s Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan respectively had more roles in the film. All three of them had good chemistry and dynamic that made their relationship in the graphic novel alive in this film.

I really enjoyed Sam Rockwell’s performance as Justin Hammer. I know, I know, the real Hammer is way older but I think director Jon Favreau did the right thing to decrease Hammer’s age to be the same range as Robert Downey, Jr.’s Tony Stark. Every scene that has both Stark and Hammer were delightful.

Don Cheadle’s role as James Rhodes was okay for me. He did an adequate job on this one. At first I thought I might have doubt to see him as Rhodes (instead of Terrence Howard). But I was wrong. Cheadle played the role nicely and had a good chemistry with Downey, Jr.’s Tony Stark. As for Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, personally she left something to be desired. I assume that she might have more role in, if any, the next Iron Man movie.

As for Mickey Rourke, I’m sure he had a blast playing Ivan Vanko’s role in Iron Man 2. His appearance as Vanko in the 1st act was very intimidating.

All in all, I’m satisfied with Iron Man 2 and this movie surely leaves some room for the (I’m very sure there will be) Iron Man 3. And be sure to stay After the credit. You’ll be surprised like I was.

Mickey Rourke is in Iron Man 2!

8 01 2009

And I first thought the casting news of Tim Robbins as Howard Stark a while back was great. According to Joblo.com, Mickey Rourke will star in Iron Man 2 and likely to be in the role of Crimson Dynamo! Honestly I can’t picture him to be the scientist who create the suit but Rourke in Crimson Dynamo armor would be awesome. Check out the link for more details.

Why Terrence Howard Got Fired

3 11 2008

According to Joblo.com, the article in the link is probably the reason why Howard got replaced by Don Cheadle for the upcoming Iron Man 2. I’m a bit surprised to find out why got fired actually. My only question is how come Favreau, the director, hasn’t come out and tell us what is going on.  Check out the link for more info.

“Surprise of a Lifetime” for Terrence Howard

22 10 2008

Well, the news has been rumored for a week or so now. With the report of Yahoo Movies News, I guess it’s true. Perhaps the most shocked person is none other than Howard himself. This must feel like a big slap to his face. Don Cheadle is a fine actor but honestly I just don’t see him as War Machine. I’m sure he’ll able to pull the role off but I just don’t see the “James Rhodes” in him.

Why can’t Robert Downey, Jr. or even Jon Favreau himself ask the studio to reconsider? It’s not exactly clear as to why Howard was dropped out of Iron Man 2. I just wish he could still be James Rhodes in Iron Man 2. In my opinion, he basically nailed the part with the look and the physique and I can basically see a chemistry between his character and Tony Stark.

Check out the news for yourself.

No More War Machine for Terrence Howard?

20 10 2008

I know that this news has been hitting the net for quite awhile. But I just read an article on IGN Filmforce saying that it came as a surprise to Howard himself too. According to that article, it turns out that it’s not about the salary but the contract just doesn’t hold up. I assume that he meant the contract he signed on the first movie and somehow implicating that he would also be James Rhodes in Iron Man 2. That’s just my guess though.

If that turns out to be real, can the studio actually do this? Don Cheadle is a good actor and I’m sure he can pull it off if he is actually the new James Rhodes. Don’t get me wrong. But I just don’t see him as War Machine.

For me, Terrence Howard is perfect for the James Rhodes role.

Becoming Iron Man

1 10 2008

I just got my Iron Man DVD yesterday and I’m still amazed how they made and choreographed Iron Man with a real life-like human actions instead of some clunky machine with, well, maybe cheesy FX. But thanks to folks at Industrial Light and Magic in San Franciso that we have a superb special FX for our good on’ Shellhead.

Iron Man DVD Review

30 09 2008

Here you go, folks. The highly anticipated, at least for me, Iron Man DVD and I just got my hands on right off the shelf today. And man, the sound FX is just a blast! My only complaint is it should have DTS 5.1 surround sound. But with the audio the disc has, it’s enough for me to blow the amp up in my home theater. Check out the link for Iron Man DVD review.
