Why do swimmers take a shower after the dive?

14 08 2008

You know, I’ve been watching both male and female synchronized diving for the past couple of days and I’ve always wondered why they need to take a shower right after they finish their routines. Today Yahoo News gives me the answer. That’s because the temperature of the water in the swimming pool and the temperature of the air in the stadium are different. This difference can make their muscles tense. That’s why they need to take a shower to warm up their muscles. Check it out.

Well, it’s good they take a shower for any reason- the chlorine in the pools
are bad for people. Skin soaks up chlorine and it has been shown
chlorine contributes to heart problems.

But then again,if the shower has chlorine in it, this will not be good.
What is just as bad, is drinking water with chlorine.

For the divers actually it is because the water is sooo cold they need to loosen up their muscles before they dive again in hot water. Also there is a hot tub for long breaks believe it or not. It sounds weird but is true. It might have a bit to do with the chlorine but that would mean you need shampoo. They were talking about it in the commentary a couple of days ago. (The muscles not the shampoo).
