The Dark Knight
18 07 2008
I’ve heard many good reviews for the upcoming The Dark Knight, especially Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime. It’s a very unfortunate event that an actor of his caliber passed away at such a young age.
Christopher Nolan’s direction on Batman Begins practically set the bar really high when it comes to adapting comic books into films. There have been expectations that The Dark Knight would set an even higher bar from Batman Begins. But I think The Dark Knight has already set the bar quite high when it comes to marketing. I’ve been really hyped up for the movie from many viral marketing tactics from several mock-up websites that suppose to look like the real Gotham City’s related websites and Harvey Dent’s campaign for running Gotham City’s district attorney that took place in many U.S. cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, etc.
I also love many posters for The Dark Knight, especially this one. It has this sense of collage. Many Joker’s cards make up Batman’s image as if Joker is part of Batman. So I thought. I’ve got to get myself a hand on this poster.

Nighthawks Redux
18 07 2008
I’m a big fan of Edward Hopper’s artworks. His works have a certain quality of loneliness within the city. My favorite is Nighthawks. The whole picture can tell a story of a few individuals who stay out very late in an all-night diner in, I guess, 1950s America. Somehow Nighthawks has been a picture of alteration for a while – ranging from Cartoon Network’s own version of Nighthawks several years ago to promotional artwork for “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” couple of years ago.
But the one I found on Artcatchr just made me laugh. I’ve seen a lot of alteration on Nighthawks but I never see one that literally breaking the window, haha.

Open for Interpretation
18 07 2008
This image reminds partially a mix of The Punisher logo, Ghost Rider’s blazing skull, and a cover of David Sedaris’ “When You are Engulfed in Flame”. The picture has this certain quality of doom (I mean, it’s a skull. What else can you think of?) into it. Yet, it looks so intriguing. I still can’t figure out what’s on the left side of the skull – around the chin. Is it a telephone? If so, is this guy talking himself to death? Are telephones/cellphones causing death? It’s a work of art, yes. But also a work that opens for your own interpretation.
